MEDITATION TECHNIQUES

Meditation Techniques

Traditionally in meditation the practitioner sits cross legged but this can cause pain and numbness in parts of the body causing major distractions to occur and re-occur. It is vital that you find a position that feels sacred but does not cause aces and pain after short periods of time. You may also try stretching out in sacred postures then re-entering seated meditation. It is said that this is how yoga postures were born. In meditation it is necessary to work through a little pain and discomfort but always care for you joints. Circulation can be cut off and joints can become sore as stabilizing muscles fatigue. Try to find a comfortable position to sit. Use cushions or special seats so that aces and pains are light and not distracting. This is the external steps before meditation is entered.Breathing should be very relaxed. This may be harder than you think. Learn to breath as is there is a feather under your nose that barely moves during inhalations and exhalations. Also learn many of the other breathing techniques that help bring about rhythmic breathing that is smooth and relaxed. For beginners meditation should simply be about learning to remove present and rising thoughts. Once this can be achieved and maintained the practitioner begins inner illumination. This is when meditation begins to become really beneficial as one has learned that controlling the mind is possible. It is then that a light turns on. The candle flame inside the mind no longer flickers with scattered thoughts. At this time the aura brightens and bad karma burns away.Have a special place for meditation. Make it sacred and surround it with all that is good and inspirational to you. All those who had great spiritual influence to in your life, be it deity savior or idol, for a more positive environment. You will find that after a while simply walking into this space will give you a feeling of relaxation and detachment making it easier to transcend.Learn a mantra (sacred prayer) to help remove the thoughts that arise and distract you. Stay aware as many thoughts can occur and some time may pass before one becomes conscious that the mind is wandering. One needs vigilance, strong enthusiasm and determination to prosper.
